The Center for Sustainable and Smart Transportation Systems, Department of Civil Engineering, VNR VJIET in association with CSIR - Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi is organizing a conference on“TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH EFFORTS FOR ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY - 2025” (TREES - 2025).

Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNRVJIET), sponsored by Vignana Jyothi, was established in 1995 with the permission of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and the Government of (erstwhile) Andhra Pradesh.
The Institute is autonomous under UGC and is affiliated to JNTU-Hyderabad. The Institute is accredited by NAAC with 'A++' Grade and CGPA 3.67 in Cycle-III in 2024. The Institute offers 14 B.Tech. programmes, 13 M.Tech. programmes, and 5 Ph.D. programmes.
MHRD, India has ranked the institute in the Engineering category and 151-200 rank band in the Overall category in NIRF 2024.
The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2001. The department offers PG programs in Structural Engineering, Highway Engineering and Geo-technical Engineering with an intake of 18 each. UG program in Civil Engineering is accredited by NBA for 6 years, consecutively second time in December 2022.
The department has well qualified and experienced faculty (20 Ph.D.'s in various specializations of Civil Engineering). Department has MoU's with Industry and also undertake consultancy to promote Industry Institute Interaction.
The research grant of Rs. 76 Lakhs has been received under different research schemes namely CRG - SERB, ISRO, TEQIP-III, DST, MRP – UGC, RPS- AICTE etc., and FDPs also sponsored AICTE and Industry.
The department is accorded with Third Party Quality Control (TPQC) services from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Comprehensive Road Management Plan (CRMP) of GHMC, Government of Telangana State since May 2018 and generated Rs. 150 Lakhs in last five years.
The CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), established in 1952, is India's premier research organization for highways, traffic, and transport planning. As a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), it carries out R&D in road infrastructure, providing expert consultancy services.
With advanced facilities, CRRI undertakes research in pavement design, road maintenance, bridges, geotechnical investigations, and traffic management, contributing to the development of efficient and sustainable transportation systems.
CRRI's key research areas include pavement performance, road condition monitoring, hazard mitigation, traffic engineering, rural road planning, bridge rehabilitation, and environmental challenges. It also focuses on emerging urban needs, such as subway and underpass construction, highway instrumentation, and reinforced earth walls.
The institute actively collaborates with national and international organizations, exchanging expertise with global research bodies like TRB (USA), ARRB (Australia), TRL (UK), and the World Road Association (PIARC). Through cutting-edge research and strategic partnerships, CSIR-CRRI continues to contribute to India's transportation planning, road safety, and infrastructure development.
In addition to research, the institute plays a vital role in training and skill development, having trained over 25,000 highway engineers through specialized programs.
